About the Role
Whisper Aero is seeking a DevOps Engineer to work at the intersection of development, testing, and operations onsite in either Crossville or Nashville, Tennessee. The DevOps Engineer will design and maintain the pipelines, infrastructure, and containerized workflows that power our test campaigns and large-scale analyses. Your work will ensure data flows reliably through automated systems, enable engineering teams to visualize results, and support the developer tools that keep our organization moving quickly. This role is hands-on, collaborative, and cross-functional. A successful candidate will thrive on efficiency and automation, with a passion for streamlining workflows. They should bring a collaborative perspective and enjoy working closely with teams across all Whisper business units.
What You’ll Do
Infrastructure & Automation
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for analysis trade studies, iron bird tests, and long-term durability test campaigns.
- Build containerized workflows to automate deployment, scaling, and monitoring of design and test environments.
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and security.
Data Flow & Test Campaigns
- Develop and maintain systems for managing large-scale data flows from automated tests.
- Build tooling for data ingestion, processing, visualization, and reporting.
- Maintain a digital thread by integrating and connecting data flows across PLM, MES, and test software, ensuring seamless information exchange throughout the product lifecycle.
Collaboration & Support
- Partner with engineering teams to improve internal developer tooling.
- Work closely with developers, design engineers, test engineers, and quality.
- Provide technical guidance and documentation on DevOps best practices.
- Troubleshoot issues across code, infrastructure, and data pipelines.
- Coordinate with IT/Security teams to ensure optimized engineering workflows are also compliant with relevant standards (e.g., SOC2, NIST, CMMC)
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical discipline with a minimum of 4 years of related experience; or a Masters degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and shell scripting.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.).
- Deep experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) to scale test executions and data analyses.
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS services and AWS GovCloud ideal)
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and visualization tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, etc.).
- Solid understanding of version control systems (Git).
- Familiarity with managing data pipelines and distributed systems.
- Proficiency working across Linux, Windows, and macOS development environments.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex systems clearly.
- Self-starter with a drive to improve developer productivity.
Bonus Qualifications
- Background in software development within engineering-focused organizations.
- Experience with test automation frameworks and test campaign orchestration.
- Strong database skills (SQL/NoSQL).
- Knowledge of security and compliance best practices, especially in regulated cloud environments (FedRAMP, ITAR, NIST, CMMC, SOC2 etc.).
